‘Approach Registry, CJI’: SC Vacation Bench Refuses To Entertain Mentioning Of Fresh Pleas Against NEET-UG Result 2024

The Supreme Court vacation bench on Tuesday refused to entertain mentioning of fresh petitions for urgent hearing in the matter pertaining to discrepancies in the NEET-UG results 2024. The top court is yet to hear the listed petition seeking cancellation and re-examination over allegations of paper leak today.

Advocate J Sai Deepak mentioned a fresh petition challenging the NEET results today before the vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah. Several separate petitions have been filed in the top court over the ‘grace marks’ granted to more than 1500 students over delay during exam. The top court vacation bench refused to club these petitions mentioned today along with the listed plea against NEET-UG results that is to be heard today later in the day.
The petitioners have challenged the grace marks granted to certain students over delay during the exam, and have sought to recall the results and conduct of fresh exams for admissions to NEET-UG.

The petitioners have contended that the grant of grace marks was arbitrary and it is statistically impossible to score marks as high as  718 & 719 out of 720 that were secured by several students.

The petitions further question how 67 students from one particular Centre got full 720 marks. It also states that there are several complaints about the provisional answer key being published on April 29 by NTA.

The petitioners further highlighted the widespread complaints of question paper leak of the exam held on May 5.

The petitioners have now sought a stay of the counselling to be conducted for NEET-UG 2024 admissions till the investigation into the alleged paper leak is completed.

They have further demanded the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter.

On June 8, the NTA and the Union Education Ministry announced that a four-member committee will review the results of over 1,500 candidates who were awarded grace marks to compensate for the loss of time.

The counsel requested that his petition be heard along with the listed plea today in the NEET-UG matter.
However, the court asked him to approach the Registry which will be routed via CJI DY Chandrachud for listing and clubbing.
The Counsels appearing for the petitioners apprised the court that the NEET counselling might start soon and a connected petition is listed today.
The bench however, repeated that they all are wasting their time in mentioning as they have no authority to list a petition like this.
The Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking cancellation of NEET-UG 2024 exam results and re-examination over alleged paper leak today.

It may be noted that on May 17, the Supreme Court issued notice on a petition seeking the cancellation of the test on the grounds of paper leak. However, the top court had refused to stay the results.
