As many as 31 evacuation flights will be operated to neighbouring countries of crisis-hit Ukraine and will bring back more than 6,300 Indians stranded in the eastern European nation, according to official sources. Under ‘Operation Ganga’, the flights will be operated by Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Indian Air Force.
The Ukraine military says Russian paratroopers have landed in its besieged second-largest city Kharkiv, BBC reported. Russian troops have parachuted into Kharkiv stepping up an attack on Ukraine`s second-largest city which saw dozens of civilian killings in bombings Tuesday.
Russian forces escalated their attacks on crowded urban areas Tuesday, bombarding the central square in Ukraine’s second-biggest city and Kyiv’s main TV tower in what the country’s president called a blatant campaign of terror.
Russia told Kyiv residents to flee their homes and rained rockets on the city of Kharkiv. Additionally, the World Bank is preparing a $3 billion support package for Ukraine. US President Joe Biden was to say in a speech on Tuesday night that Russian President Vladimir Putin`s invasion of Ukraine was “premeditated and unprovoked.”
Meanwhile, of the hundreds of refugees gathered on the grounds of a village school in eastern Hungary, almost all were women and children who left their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons behind to fight in Ukraine’s resistance to the deadly Russian invasion.
