PM Modi’s Swipe At Oppn In Lok Sabha: ‘Despite Spreading Lies, They Have Faced Crushing Defeat’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address on Tuesday, making notable remarks on his third term and the recent Lok Sabha election result. He noted that the people had given him the opportunity to serve the nation for the third time. Amidst opposition sloganeering, PM Modi expressed gratitude to the first-time MPs for their commendable conduct and participation in the debate.
“Several MPs expressed their views on the President’s address yesterday and earlier today. I would like to express my gratitude to the first-time MPs who expressed their views on the President’s address while following all the rules of the House,” PM Modi said.
He continued, “Yesterday and today, several MPs have expressed their views of the President’s address, especially those who have come among us for the first time as Parliamentarians. They followed all the rules of the Parliament, and their behaviour was like that of an experienced Parliamentarian. Despite being first-timers, they have enhanced the dignity of the House and made this debate more valuable with their views.”
Reflecting on the recent electoral process, PM Modi remarked, “The country has crossed a successful election campaign and showed the world that this was the world’s biggest election campaign, in which people of the country have chosen us. I can understand the pain of some people that despite speaking lies, they faced crushing defeat.”
The session saw Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reprimanding Opposition MPs for creating a ruckus and raising slogans during the Prime Minister’s address.
PM Modi reiterated his government’s stance on corruption, stating, “When we came to power in 2014, we had said that we will have zero tolerance towards corruption. Corruption had ravaged the country like termites. However, the countrymen have blessed us for our zero tolerance approach to corruption.”
Highlighting India’s growing global stature, he said, “Today, India’s credibility has increased across the world… The sole aim of our every policy, every decision, every action has been India first.”
“Our one and only target is ‘nation first’, ‘India first’. Each of our policies, our decisions and our work have been on one scale – ‘India first’. In the last 10 years, our government has been working with the objective of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’. This country has seen politics of appeasement for a long time; this country has seen a model of governance of appeasement for a long time. We have moved forward with the idea of ‘santushtikaran’ (satisfaction), not appeasement,” PM Modi emphasised.
Assuring the nation, he added, “I assure the countrymen that we have taken the resolution of Viksit Bharat and we will make efforts to fulfil that resolution. We will do it with full dedication and honesty and will spend every moment of our time to fulfil this resolution.”
PM Modi’s address highlighted the government’s commitment to combating corruption, prioritising national interests, and fostering inclusive development.
Opposition Upset As A Non-Congress Leader Became PM For Third Term: Modi At NDA Meet
Earlier in the day, he urged NDA MPs to adhere to parliamentary rules and learn from senior members, a statement seen in the context of recent tensions following Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s speech.
Addressing a meeting of NDA MPs, Prime Minister Modi underscored his humble origins, drawing a contrast with the Nehru-Gandhi family. “For the first time, a non-Congress leader, that too a chai-wala, has become Prime Minister for a third straight term,” news agency PTI cited sources as quoting Modi. He also highlighted that previous prime ministers from outside the Nehru-Gandhi family were not given due recognition, emphasising his commitment to acknowledging contributions from all former prime ministers.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, briefing reporters, noted Modi’s advice to MPs to study parliamentary issues, attend Parliament regularly, and effectively raise matters concerning their constituencies. When asked about any reference to Gandhi’s Monday speech, Rijiju clarified that Modi made no direct mention but stressed that the Prime Minister’s message was for everyone.
Rahul Gandhi had launched a scathing attack on the BJP in the Lok Sabha, accusing the ruling party of dividing people on communal lines. This drew significant protests from the treasury benches, with Prime Minister Modi criticising Gandhi for allegedly branding the entire Hindu community as violent.
At the alliance meeting, Modi was felicitated by NDA leaders for his historic third term. PTI Sources mentioned that Modi advised MPs to study issues thoroughly before making public comments and to maintain close contact with their constituencies, thanking voters for their support.
Modi also encouraged MPs to visit the Prime Ministers Museum, which documents the life journeys of all prime ministers. He remarked that the contributions of non-Congress prime ministers were often neglected in the past, and his administration has ensured that all are recognised for their contributions to the nation.
