Delhi Police Rescue 8-Yr-Old Girl Within 24 Hrs Of Abduction, Accused Arrested

An eight-year-old girl was rescued within 24 hours of being abducted by man near her house in Delhi’s Kotla Mubarak Pura area on Monday. The accused, identified as Mohammad Umar (28), is a resident of Mehrauli, and was arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly kidnapping and sexually harassing the minor.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Ankit Chauhan said that a PCR call was received regarding the kidnapping of the 8-year-old girl at Kotla Mubarakpur police station on May 6, at 3 pm. Thereafter, “staff was immediately rushed to the spot,” he told news agency PTI.

“Based on the family’s complaint, an FIR was lodged under section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code and an investigation was initiated,” the police official added.

As soon as the complaint was received, the police team questioned the family members and relatives of the girl thoroughly.

Talking about how the police nabbed the accused, the police official said: “The teams started working on all aspects. We got vital clues from the place of occurrence through analysis of CCTV footage as the suspect was spotted moving in the area.”

The police examined multiple CCTV Cameras in Bapu Park, Kotla Mubarakpur, Uday Chand Marg, Gurudwara road, Pilanji village, and South Extension -1, among other places, following which the accused was spotted coming from the South Extension -1 bus stop, PTI reported citing the DCP.

“We checked more CCTV footage of DTC buses to identify the accused. The details of the kidnapped girl were uploaded on ZIPNET (the networking system of police of adjoining states),” he said.

On Tuesday, the police arrested the accused, Umar from the Andheria Mod slum area and the girl was rescued.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he crafts small toys of glass and was in Kotla to collect glass. It was then that he noticed the girl playing and decided to abduct her.

After being rescued, the girl was reunited with her family and was sent for a medical examination.
